Mobius Climate Statement
Introduction
Mobius has firm intentions and ambitions to be a positive influence in relation to matters affecting the climate, including but not limited to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, waste reduction, and pollution.
Our Work
Much of our client work has a specific involvement or influence on such matters, focusing on helping clients improve the energy performance of their building stock through our specialist work on Energy Performance Certificates and the impact of the MEES Regulations.
Through this work, we strongly promote the adoption of building systems fuelled by renewable and low-carbon / low-emission means, and consistently work with partners to seek out new and improving ways to continually reduce carbon emissions from the buildings we advise on.
Our Commitments and Actions
Mobius further takes responsibility for its own direct impact upon the environment and has instigated key policies and procedures that are employed in everyday work, including:
- Travel – Where travel is required for work-related matters (such as site inspections), journeys are undertaken by public transport in all cases unless unfeasible. Compared to private ICE vehicles, this secures a significant reduction in travel-related carbon emissions.
- Travel to work – Our office is located close to a main London terminus and is highly accessible by public transport, resulting in travel to work being almost exclusively by these means.
- Office premises – Our offices are located in a historic building. While the thermal efficiency is not to modern standards, it has been significantly improved. The offices now benefit from a heat-pump air-conditioning system, LED lighting, and no use of gas heating.
- Paper use – The vast majority of our work is carried out on a paperless basis, with fewer than 10 pages printed per working day. We have invested in energy-efficient screens and technology to support digital document review and minimise printing.
- Waste – A strict recycling procedure is in place to ensure recyclable materials are processed correctly and landfill waste is kept to a minimum.
- CPD – All members of the Mobius team are kept informed of environmental legislation affecting their work, and our environmental commitments are actively promoted internally.
Results and Monitoring
We are yet to instigate a formal policy to specifically measure the impact of these actions. However, as part of our business planning, we are targeting a date between 2030 and 2035 to undertake the necessary actions and assessments to achieve certification as net zero.
Continuous Improvement
Through our professional work, Mobius maintains close awareness of climate, environmental, and wellbeing-related measures and initiatives. These are monitored to identify opportunities for implementation within our own business or for recommendation to our clients. Examples include:
- B Corp certification
- BREEAM Assessment and Certification
- NABERS
- WELL Building Standard
Conclusion
Environmental impact is a key aspect of the advice we provide to clients every day and is a constant theme throughout our work and culture.
We are committed to continuing and expanding our focus in this area and to ensuring that Mobius becomes a net zero carbon business by 2035.
